Starfield – Optimization Tips and Tweaks

Hi there, I think its time for this.

Tips and Tweaks

Сrеdit gоеs to MeGa!

Let’s start with the main ones:

  • Install the game into a SSD, preferably a m2 / nvme one.
  • Download the DLSS mod from Nexus.
  • Use some optimized settings that dont lower image quality too much but grant better performance.
  • Dynamic Resolution: On
  • Render Resolution: 75%
  • Graphics Preset: Custom
  • Shadow Quality: Medium
  • Indirect Lighting: High
  • Reflections: Medium
  • Particle Quality: Low
  • Volumetric Lighting: Medium
  • Crowd Density: Low
  • Motion Blur: Off
  • GTAO Quality: Medium
  • Grass Quality: High
  • Contact Shadows: Medium
  • VSync: On
  • Upscaling: FSR2
  • Enable VRS: On
  • Depth of Field: On

And tweak as you see fit, for example I kept the render resolution at 80% (playing at 1440p) and left the particle quality at medium, with vsync off (got gsync). Will probably play with DoF Off instead, and try to bump GTAO Quality to High, and see if there is quality gain / performance loss.

Other possible optimizations and tweaks:

  • Drivers, sometimes with Nvidia a gameready driver improves performance and sometimes, specially lately, its better to stay one driver behind / use the studio drivers. I for one am still testing without updating drivers to the latest version.
  • Increase process priority via task manager / use Prio program so you don’t need to do it every time.
  • Ensure your power plan is set to “high performance” (sometimes can be reset if drivers updated for example).

Im sure I will find some more things after experimenting and doing more research!
