Lavos Build Guide with Tips (2026)
Lavos is a cooldown-focused Warframe whose abilities can be imbued with additional elemental damage and status effects. His abilities also interact with elemental status effects to increase the damage of Catalyze.
Passive
Energy and Universal Orbs give Lavos status immunity for 10 seconds. Holding any ability allows Lavos to imbue the next cast with additional elemental damage and its corresponding status effect.
Ophidian Bite
Lavos lashes out with a toxic serpentine strike that consumes the target and heals him.
Hold the ability to add Toxin to Lavos’ vial as the next element for his following ability cast.
Effects and mechanics
- Enemies hit are briefly vulnerable to melee finishers.
- Each enemy hit heals Lavos for 7% to 15% of the damage dealt, scaling with Ability Strength.
- Toxin can be combined with other elements to create Corrosive, Gas, or Viral damage.
- Each enemy electrocuted by Transmutation Probe reduces Ophidian Bite’s cooldown.
- Toxin status effects applied by Ophidian Bite increase Catalyze’s damage.
Vial Rush
Lavos dashes forward, leaving a trail of Cold.
Hold the ability to add Cold to Lavos’ vial as the next element for his following ability cast.
Effects and mechanics
- Enemies standing in the residue take Cold and the currently imbued elemental damage per second.
- Enemies standing in the residue receive status procs every second.
- When the dash ends or is interrupted, Lavos releases an explosion around himself.
- The explosion deals a single instance of Cold damage and the currently imbued elemental damage and status effects.
- The dash can be cancelled early by jumping or recasting.
- Each enemy electrocuted by Transmutation Probe reduces Vial Rush’s cooldown.
- Cold status effects applied by Vial Rush increase Catalyze’s damage.
Cold can be combined with other elements to create Blast, Magnetic, or Viral damage.
Transmutation Probe
Lavos launches a projectile that electrifies enemies and transmutes pickups into their Universal variants.
Hold the ability to add Electricity to Lavos’ vial as the next element for his following ability cast.
Effects and mechanics
- Enemies are affected by Electricity and the currently imbued element.
- Each enemy electrocuted reduces the cooldown of Lavos’ other abilities by 1.5 seconds.
- Each enemy can reduce the cooldown once per Transmutation Probe cast.
- Electricity status effects increase Catalyze’s damage.
- Transmutation Probe reduces the cooldown of Vial Rush and Lavos’ other abilities when it electrocutes enemies.
Electricity can be combined with other elements to create Corrosive, Magnetic, or Radiation damage.
Use Transmutation Probe when a large group of enemies is present to reduce as much cooldown as possible.
Catalyze
Lavos releases Catalyst Probes that apply elemental damage. Their damage scales based on the existing elemental status effects affecting enemies.
Hold the ability to add Heat to Lavos’ vial as the next element for his following ability cast.
Effects and mechanics
Enemies hit take Heat plus the currently imbued elemental damage, with guaranteed status procs.
Catalyze’s damage increases by 100% for each unique elemental status effect already affecting the enemy.
Physical status effects such as Impact, Puncture, and Slash do not count.
Each unique elemental status effect therefore doubles Catalyze’s damage.
Elemental status effects from weapons and abilities can increase Catalyze’s damage.
Heat can be combined with other elements to create Blast, Gas, or Radiation damage.
Augments
Swift Bite
Reduces Ophidian Bite’s cooldown by 4 seconds when at least four enemies are hit.
Lingering Transmutation
Transmutation Probe returns to Lavos after reaching maximum range and remains nearby for 6 seconds.
The Probe can be recalled by recasting the ability.
Valence Formation
Casting an ability with additional elemental damage grants a 200% bonus to that element and guarantees its associated status proc for 20 seconds.
Valence Formation can be purchased from New Loka and Red Veil.
The bonus from Valence Formation is multiplicative with Elementalist. When used on a weapon, it affects the element infused into the weapon by Valence Formation, while the other status effects remain unaffected by this bonus.
General Build Priorities
Ability Strength is not the primary stat to focus on. The source recommends keeping Ability Strength at 100% or higher while prioritizing Ability Range, with Ability Duration as the second priority.
Recommended priority:
- Ability Range
- Ability Duration
- Ability Strength, as long as it remains at or above 100%
Priming Enemies
A primer companion can help Lavos apply additional status effects before using Catalyze.
Examples include Diriga and Hound companions.
The Mecha set is another option. It provides additional armor and spreads the status if the marked target is killed with Catalyze.
Melee Recommendations
The source recommends the following melee weapons for Lavos:
- Amanata with the Amanata Pressure augment
- Dual Viciss, using either Vortex or Afflictions
- Harmony
- Dual Ichor
- Hate with its Incarnon
Harmony benefits from Ability Duration because its status scaling is based on Ability Duration.
Hate with its Incarnon is highlighted as a strong option because both Burning Hate and Valence Formation are multiplicative with Elementalist.
Arcane Recommendations
Arcane Circumvent
Arcane Circumvent can be used when fighting bosses to help apply Lavos’ status effects through defense strip while also providing survivability.
Arcane Persistence
Lavos’ passive provides 10 seconds of status immunity from Energy pickups, reducing the concern of having Magnetic status disable Arcane Persistence.
If Arcane Persistence becomes disabled, Lavos does not regain his shields and remains shieldless.
Arcane Grace
Arcane Grace is another option.
Subsumed Abilities
Lavos’ second ability is the recommended subsume slot.
Vial Rush can either be used primarily as a mobility ability or used to freeze enemies and then prime them before hitting them with Catalyze.
Gloom
Gloom heals based on the damage dealt. Since Lavos can damage many enemies, it provides healing on demand and can function as an alternative to Arcane Grace.
Evade
If Evade is placed in the second ability slot, Transmutation Probe can be used to reduce its cooldown.
Practical Ability Usage
- Use Ophidian Bite with Swift Bite when at least four enemies are available to reduce its cooldown and restore health.
- Use Transmutation Probe when a large group of enemies is present so that as many enemies as possible are electrocuted and Lavos can reduce his ability cooldowns.
- Apply multiple unique elemental status effects before using Catalyze to increase its damage.
- Use Vial Rush to apply Cold status effects and contribute additional elemental statuses for Catalyze.
- Use a primer companion to apply additional status effects before Catalyze.
- Prioritize Ability Range and Ability Duration while keeping Ability Strength at or above 100%.
