Warframe – The Ultimate Ember Guide

Ember Guide (2026)

Ember is primarily built around Heat damage, Immolation management, armor stripping, and spreading Heat effects across groups of enemies. Her effectiveness depends heavily on Ability Strength, Range, Duration, and Efficiency, with Efficiency becoming more important for caster-focused builds.

Abilities

Passive

Ember gains +5% Ability Strength for every enemy affected by a Heat status effect within her Affinity Range.

Tip: Affinity Range can be increased with Fosfor or the Vazarin Focus Class.

Fireball

Ember hurls a fiery projectile that explodes on impact, dealing Heat damage and applying a guaranteed Heat proc. Consecutive casts within a short window build a combo multiplier, increasing the damage of each successive Fireball.

Fireball counts as weapon damage and benefits from Universal Weapon Bonuses such as:

  • Arcane Arachne
  • Naramon’s Lethal Levitation
  • Nourish

Immolation

Immolation surrounds Ember with protective flames that provide Damage Reduction while gradually filling a Heat meter. As the meter rises, Ember gains increased Damage Reduction. At maximum Heat, Damage Reduction can reach up to 90% with at least +125% Ability Strength.

The energy drain increases steadily as the Immolation meter rises and can quickly become unsustainable at maximum Heat.

Casting different abilities affects the Immolation meter:

  • Fireball: raises the Immolation meter
  • Inferno: raises the Immolation meter
  • Fire Blast: lowers the Immolation meter

Immolation also improves Ember’s other abilities based on her current Heat level:

  • Fireball: increased combo multiplier scaling
  • Fire Blast: reduced Energy cost and increased armor strip, from 50% to 100%
  • Healing Flame: increased healing and Overguard
  • Inferno: increased Ring of Fire damage

Fire Blast

Ember slams the ground and sends out a rapidly expanding wave of fire. Enemies caught in the wave take Heat damage, receive a guaranteed Heat proc, have their armor stripped, and are knocked down and pushed back.

Armor strip per cast is capped at 100% Ability Strength. Ability Strength above this value provides no additional armor strip.

Inferno

Ember summons a barrage of meteorites that strike enemies in front of her, dealing Impact and Heat damage and applying a guaranteed Heat proc.

Surviving enemies are wrapped in a Ring of Fire for several seconds. The ring deals continuous Heat damage and has a small chance to apply additional Heat statuses.

Rings of Fire slowly expand and spread to newly unaffected enemies.

Inferno has an initial Energy cost of 0, then costs 10 Energy per targeted enemy, up to a maximum of 100 Energy.

Ring growth scales inversely with Ability Duration. Higher Duration causes the rings to expand more slowly.

Enemies can only have one Ring of Fire applied to themselves, but grouped enemies can take damage from the Rings of Fire belonging to other enemies.

Augments

Fireball Frenzy

Hold-casting Fireball grants Ember and nearby allies bonus Heat damage on their weapons.

The Heat percentage bonus does not combine with other elements, but it still contributes to DoTs and increases Heat weighting on weapons.

Archon Vitality does not apply to weapons buffed by Fireball Frenzy.

Immolated Radiance

Ember shares Immolation’s Damage Reduction with nearby allies at half its value.

Since Immolation caps at 90% Damage Reduction, allies can receive up to 45% Damage Reduction.

Healing Flame

Fire Blast heals Ember for every enemy hit. Excess healing is converted into Overguard.

Healing scales with Ability Strength and Ember’s Immolation meter.

Healing Flame provides healing for EHP tanking and Overguard for additional protection or shield-gating.

Purifying Flames

Fire Blast cleanses Ember and nearby allies of all status effects and grants a short duration of status immunity.

The duration of the status immunity scales with Ability Duration.

Exothermic

Enemies killed while affected by Inferno have a small chance to drop an Energy Orb. This applies whether the enemy is killed by Inferno’s initial impact or by its lingering Ring of Fire.

Inferno itself does not need to deal the killing blow for the Energy Orb to drop.

Energy Orb generation does not scale with Ability Strength or the Immolation meter.

Recommended Stats

The importance of Ember’s stats depends on the build, but the main stats to consider are:

  • Ability Strength
  • Ability Range
  • Ability Duration
  • Ability Efficiency, particularly for caster setups

Heat Inherit

Understanding Heat status mechanics is important for maximizing Ember’s caster damage.

Unlike other DoTs, Heat procs do not create separate damage ticks. Each new Heat proc refreshes the duration of all existing Heat stacks on the target, and all stacks are consolidated into a single damage tick.

The damage of all Heat stacks is based on the DoT modifiers present when the first Heat proc was applied. This includes:

  • Heat damage mods, such as Hellfire and Scorch
  • Faction Damage mods, such as Bane of Grineer and Cleanse of Orokin

If the first Heat proc is applied without these modifiers, such as through Warframe abilities or Manifold Bond, subsequent Heat procs on that target lose the benefits of those modifiers.

Status Damage is not inherited.

This makes the first Heat proc critically important for maximizing Heat damage. Ember can be disadvantaged by this mechanic because her abilities apply Heat over a wide area.

To compensate, caster builds can use high-range primer weapons to apply the initial Heat proc with the desired modifiers. Examples include:

  • Bubonico
  • Cedo Prime Alt-Fire
  • Kuva Ogris
  • Epitaph Prime

Subsumed Abilities

Ember has considerable flexibility when choosing a subsumed ability. Fire Blast is generally the ability you want to keep.

Fireball

Fireball deals relatively low damage with a small area of effect and provides little value in caster setups without Heat Inherit priming.

Platform builds can also largely ignore Fireball outside of builds using Fireball Frenzy.

Immolation

Immolation provides Damage Reduction, but maintaining high Damage Reduction causes an uncapped Energy drain that can be difficult to sustain for long periods.

Immolation also counts as a channeled ability, enabling Seismic Bond while applying Frame Vulnerability and leaving Ember exposed to enemy damage while swapped to Operator.

Additionally, Overguard generated by Healing Flame is not affected by Damage Reduction, reducing the practical value of Immolation for builds relying on Healing Flame.

Inferno

Inferno deals relatively low damage without heavy support.

Exothermic also provides poor energy sustain without external buffers, making Inferno less attractive as the ability to retain when building around a subsume.

Subsumed Ability Options

Breach Surge

Use case: Lazy Scaling

Cast Breach Surge, armor strip enemies with Fire Blast, then cast Inferno and allow Breach Surge to handle the remaining damage.

For faster time-to-kill, use a Universal Damage Buff such as Arcane Arachne or Naramon Focus, then add Worthy Comradery for an increased crit tier.

Sickening Pulse

Use case: Heat Scaling

Sickening Pulse doubles the Heat DoT damage with each cast while preserving Heat Inherit bonuses:

126 → 252 → 504 → etc.

A typical sequence is:

  1. Prime enemies with Heat Inherit.
  2. Armor strip them with Fire Blast.
  3. Cast Inferno.
  4. Spam Sickening Pulse.

Sickening Pulse can be cast more quickly with lower Ability Duration.

Thermal Sunder

Use case: Heat Expedite

Heat Sunder deals additional damage equal to the current Heat proc damage on the enemy.

Casting Cold Sunder afterward converts, or expedites, the Heat proc into a Blast proc. The resulting Blast proc scales with the Heat proc’s damage and its remaining duration.

A typical sequence is:

  1. Armor strip enemies with Fire Blast.
  2. Spam Inferno and Heat Sunder.
  3. Use Cold Sunder to expedite the Heat proc.

Roar

Roar adds a Faction Damage bonus to both weapons and abilities, addressing one of the issues created by Heat Inherit.

Ember can also reach high values with her passive.

Larva

Use case: Heavy Grouping

Larva is currently the only grouping ability that works with Fire Blast. This is useful because Fire Blast normally pushes enemies away, making it difficult to keep enemies properly grouped.

A typical sequence is:

  1. Find a large group of enemies.
  2. Group them with Larva.
  3. Prime them with Heat Inherit.
  4. Armor strip them with Fire Blast.
  5. Spam Inferno.

Gloom

Gloom can prolong Fire Blast’s knockdown and Heat panic effects.

Nourish

Nourish is another available subsume option for Ember.

Arcanes

Potential Arcane choices for Ember include:

  • Arcane Truculence: synergizes with Healing Flame to apply both maximum Viral and full armor strip.
  • Arcane Energize: synergizes with Exothermic for more consistent energy economy.
  • Molt Augmented
  • Arcane Hot Shot
  • Arcane Eruption
  • Arcane Concentration
  • Molt Efficiency
  • Cascadia Flare
  • Any weapon-buffing Arcane

General Tips

Grouping tools can significantly improve Ember’s caster setups. Examples include:

  • Scyotid
  • Cordon
  • Magus Anomaly

Archon Vitality can also substantially improve caster setups.

Exothermic’s energy economy can be improved through:

  • Ability Efficiency
  • Zenurik Focus
  • Arcane Energize
  • Shards for Energy Orb Effectiveness

Weapons that rely on Heat DoTs are generally not recommended for Ember builds with high Ability Range that frequently spam abilities. This is due to the Heat Inherit mechanic, where Ember’s own Heat applications can interfere with the modifiers applied by the weapon’s initial Heat proc.
