Warframe – The Ultimate Limbo Guide

Limbo Guide (2026) – Builds, Abilities, Augments, Arcanes & Companions

Passive

Rift Walk

Rift Walk allows Limbo to shift between the Material Plane and the Rift Plane with any dodge movement, including rolls, sidesprings, and backsprings.

When Limbo enters the Rift, he leaves behind a portal for 5 seconds. Allies and enemies that touch the portal are Banished to the Rift for 15 seconds.

The portal provides a free way to force enemies into the Rift. Its fixed 15-second duration cannot be modified by Ability Duration, and unlike Banish, its duration is not reduced against units such as Sentients and Thrax.

Rift Plane

Limbo has access to both the Material Plane and the Rift Plane, with interaction between the two being highly restricted.

While in the Rift:

  • Limbo regenerates 2 Energy per second.
  • Killing Rifted enemies restores 10 Energy, regardless of which plane Limbo is currently in.
  • Allied Warframes also benefit from passive Energy recovery, but this recovery is disabled by Channeled Abilities.
  • Most weapons cannot interact across the Rift, while Abilities can.
  • Enemy weapons and gunfire cannot cross the Rift, although certain abilities, including those used by Eximus, Dax, and Scrambus units, can attack across planes.
  • Pickups normally cannot be collected while in the Rift, but they will still be vacuumed and collected after Limbo leaves the Rift.
  • Cataclysm allows normal looting while inside its area.
  • Players in the Rift cannot interact with consoles, including Hackable, Mobile Defense, and Elevator consoles, or Life Support capsules.
  • Enemies cannot be scanned across the Rift with the Codex Scanner, although plants can still be scanned.
  • Operators cannot enter the Rift and cannot hit Rifted enemies, with the exception of Tauron Strikes.

Gara’s Splinter Storm is an exception to the usual weapon interaction rules and can interact across the Rift.

Enemy Interactions

  • Nullifiers: Nullifier Fields pull Limbo out of the Rift while canceling Stasis and prevent reentry until the Nullifier is destroyed. Cataclysm’s remaining duration also drains at twice the normal rate.
  • Sentients and Thrax: These enemies can adapt to Banish. Sentients can also become fully immune to Stasis. Use Cataclysm or Rift Walk instead to keep these enemies in the Rift.
  • Eximus: Eximus abilities can cross the Rift.

Banish

Limbo unleashes a cone of Rift energy in front of himself, pushing anything it hits out of its current plane of existence.

When cast from the Material Plane on Material-bound targets, they are temporarily Banished into the Rift Plane. When cast inside the Rift on Rift-bound targets, they are returned to the Material Plane.

Banished Allies

  • Allies Banished into the Rift receive the Rift’s passive Energy recovery, but do not receive Energy from kills.
  • Allies can leave the Rift by using any dodge movement.
  • They are subject to the same Rift interaction rules. Most weapons cannot cross the Rift, while Abilities, including Exalted Weapons, can.

Banished Enemies

Banished enemies are knocked down and take Impact damage in addition to the universal transitional damage.

Thrax should generally be handled with Rift Walk or Cataclysm because they can adapt to Banish and automatically force themselves out of the Rift.

Other enemies, including Bosses and Assassins such as Zanuka and The Grustrag Three, can resist Banish, with the ability’s duration diminishing against them.

Banish normally cannot be used to banish objects and requires Cataclysm instead. Excavators are an exception, allowing Limbo to Banish them for easier Cryotic farming or Circuit runs.

Hold Cast

Holding the Banish ability attempts to eject all nearby enemies from the Rift and return them to the Material Plane.

Stasis

Limbo temporarily freezes time within the Rift Plane. Rifted enemies are frozen, while enemy gunfire, projectiles, and beams are suspended.

When Stasis ends:

  • Frozen hitscan bullets are released simultaneously.
  • Projectiles resume their trajectories one by one.

Enemies without Overguard or crowd-control immunity are frozen in place. Enemies with Overguard can still move and attack, but their gunfire remains suspended. This prevents their weapons from hitting Limbo, although they can still attack through Abilities and Melee hits.

Once their Overguard is broken, they become frozen normally.

Enemies frozen by Stasis do not count toward the regular enemy cap, allowing Limbo to force additional enemies to spawn. This can be useful for resource farming.

Stasis Projectile Limit

Stasis has a 300-projectile cap. As the number of suspended objects approaches this limit, the Rift visually distorts and ripples with increasing intensity. Exceeding the cap causes Stasis to end prematurely.

Sentient enemies can gradually adapt to Stasis, causing the duration of their freeze to diminish until they become completely immune. However, their ranged attacks remain suspended for as long as Stasis is active, even after they regain the ability to move and attack.

Rift Surge

Limbo marks all nearby Rifted enemies with Rift Surge. The marks have two main effects:

  1. Enemies killed while marked by Rift Surge transfer their mark to a random nearby enemy within the Material Plane.
  2. Enemies marked with Rift Surge that leave the Rift consume their mark and create a Radial Banish around themselves.

The Radial Banish pulls nearby enemies into the Rift while also bringing the original target back into the Rift.

Activating Rift Surge Marks

Holding Banish or recasting Cataclysm can quickly activate all Rift Surge marks, re-Banishing nearby enemies into the Rift.

Cataclysm

Limbo tears open a pocket of the Rift within the Material Plane. The resulting bubble can only be sustained for a limited duration and continuously shrinks before collapsing, dealing Blast damage to all enemies inside it.

Limbo can recast Cataclysm to immediately close the bubble.

Allies and enemies can leave the Rift simply by walking outside Cataclysm’s radius. Enemies marked with Rift Surge, however, are forced back into the Rift.

Cataclysm can force most things into the Rift that would normally resist or be unable to enter it, including:

  • Overguarded units
  • Bosses
  • Thrax
  • Pickups
  • Collectibles
  • Defense targets

Limbo can recast Cataclysm or hold-cast Banish to push enemies out of the Rift. This can trigger their Rift Surge marks and pull them back into the Rift.

Cataclysm also allows Limbo to safely carry Defense objectives such as Cryopods, Data Terminals, and Mirror Defense objectives into the Rift.

Cataclysm is non-Line-of-Sight against objects, allowing Limbo to quickly break and loot Storage Containers or complete related challenges.

Augments

Rift Haven

Allies affected by Banish are healed for 25% of their maximum health every second. The healing scales with Ability Strength. This can be useful for healing Arbitration Defense targets or Persistence users, but the augment is limited because it is tied to Banish rather than the Rift Plane as a whole.

Rift Haven does not work on Eidolon Lures.

Rift Torrent

Enemies affected by Rift Surge marks give Limbo a +30% Weapon Damage bonus. The bonus increases with Ability Strength and performs better with higher enemy density.

The damage increase works similarly to Vigorous Swap or Vex Armor. It is additive with damage percentage mods such as Serration and Hornet Strike, while also applying to weapon-coded Abilities such as Breach Surge, Null Star, and Pyrotechnics.

Rift Torrent applies twice to Glaives and Zaws using Exodia Contagion.

Cataclysmic Continuum

Every enemy killed within Cataclysm extends its duration.

The augment does not prevent Cataclysm from eventually shrinking, but the shrinkage is briefly paused whenever additional duration is applied.

This has niche uses in Defense and Excavation. The bonus duration scales with Ability Duration.

Recommended Stats

Range

Range is generally the most important stat to maximize. Around 175% Range is more suitable for squad play.

Duration

Duration is a lower priority because it is mainly important for Stasis.

Strength

Ability Strength can be dumped if you are not using Rift Torrent or Strength-dependent Subsumed Abilities.

Arcanes

Arcane Circumvent

Arcane Circumvent allows Limbo to dash through the Rift to remove enemy defenses, forcing his Abilities to work on enemies that were previously immune because of Overguard while also improving his survivability.

Stolen Overguard provides Stasis immunity.

Breaking Shields or Overguard can provide a major improvement to Thrax and Eximus time-to-kill if they are difficult to handle otherwise.

Arcane Circumvent also synergizes with Rift Walk’s portal, allowing Limbo to isolate individual enemies and kill them.

Molt Augmented

Provides additional Ability Strength for Subsumed Abilities or Rift Torrent.

Weapon Platform Options

Possible Arcanes include:

  • Arcane Strike
  • Arcane Tempo
  • Arcane Acceleration
  • Arcane Velocity
  • Arcane Precision

Limbo can generally avoid damage percentage Arcanes if he is maintaining Rift Torrent.

Arcane Aegis

Provides additional backup survivability.

Molt Efficiency / Arcane Concentration

Provide additional Duration for Stasis or Duration-based Subsumed Abilities.

Arcane Consequence

Easy to trigger through Stasis.

Subsumed Abilities

Limbo has a tightly connected kit, but Banish and Cataclysm are often the two abilities considered for replacement because they cover similar roles.

Rift Surge is another option, but it can be tedious to manage in squads and may cause problems for teammates.

Banish

Banish is very cheap and its Hold Cast helps Limbo interact with other players by ejecting nearby enemies from the Rift.

However, Banish can struggle against ability-resistant units, making enemies such as Thrax difficult to handle when relying only on Rift Walk.

Cataclysm

Cataclysm has a high Energy cost but is more consistent than Banish against the usual ability-resistant enemies.

It provides a large, lasting radius, but cannot force everything out of the Rift in the same way as Banish.

Rift Surge

Rift Surge allows Limbo to pull more enemies into the Rift without leaving it, making him more mobile. However, its marks can be annoying for teammates to track.

If you are still learning Limbo, avoid using Subsumed Abilities until you have a stronger understanding of his base kit. Bringing a Subsumed Ability into squads can also cause problems if you are still struggling to manage Limbo’s full kit without all of his original Abilities.

Subsumed Ability Options

Caster Options

  • Breach Surge
  • Null Star
  • Pyrotechnics

These abilities are buffed by Rift Torrent and can deal respectable damage.

Weapon Platform Options

  • Roar
  • Xata’s Whisper
  • Wrathful Advance
  • Eclipse
  • Nourish

Unlike Chroma, Rift Torrent does not count toward Helminth’s buff restriction.

Utility Options

  • Silence
  • Infested Mobility
  • Smite
  • Well of Life
  • Pull

Silence cancels enemy Abilities, including those used by Eximus, Thrax, and Acolytes. It can also support Obex setups using Savage Silence.

Smite can one-shot Eximus and Thrax if they are primed with one Viral status effect. Otherwise, it provides an easy method of breaking Overguard and allowing Stasis to affect them.

Infested Mobility and other Speed Helminth options are useful for speeding through quick missions.

Well of Life adds further utility to Limbo’s already strong defensive capabilities, with additional utility provided by its augment.

Pull can be used for box breaking with its Greedy Pull augment.

Archon Shards

Recommended Archon Shards include:

  • 2 to 4 Amber Shards for Casting Speed
  • 1 to 2 Amber Shards for Parkour Velocity
  • 1 to 2 additional Shards of your preference

Violet Shards are useful for platforming Primary or Melee weapons.

Equilibrium or Orb Effectiveness Shards can help with Energy economy.

Azure Shards can provide additional Max Energy, allowing you to drop Flow.

General Tips for Limbo

Stasis pauses enemy AI, allowing Limbo to benefit from Melee Stealth Multipliers. This can be achieved by using invisibility from a Huras Kubrow or using Silence/Lull to reset enemy aggro.

Stasis can also prevent certain Arcanes or Abilities from being used, including Melee Afflictions, Melee Vortex, Scyotid, and Pull.

Enemies must be stunned or unaware before being paused for the relevant multipliers to remain active.

Kidnapping with Rift Walk and Arcane Circumvent

When using Rift Walk and Arcane Circumvent to isolate an enemy, end up on the same plane as the target with Rift Torrent active.

From the Material Plane:

  1. Perform the first roll on top of the target so they enter the portal.
  2. Perform the second roll through your portal so you end up in the Rift again.

From the Rift:

  1. Roll toward the target.
  2. Perform the second roll on top of the target to fully strip them.
  3. The target then goes through the newly spawned portal.

Acolytes and Violence

Acolytes are immune to Stasis, but they are not considered a major threat to Limbo.

Violence disables Abilities, but this can be used against him.

Before Violence spawns:

  1. Put yourself and nearby enemies inside Cataclysm.
  2. Violence will kick Limbo out of the Rift without removing himself or the other enemies.
  3. The enemies will remain effectively stuck in the Rift.
  4. Wait out Violence’s Silence and then kill the enemies.

Companion Abilities

Companion Abilities can cross the Rift. Examples include:

  • Synergized Prospectus
  • Electro Pulse
  • Arc Coil
  • Coolant Leak

Defensive Objectives

Limbo can be particularly useful for protecting defensive objectives.

Excavators: Banish Excavators to prevent all damage except damage caused by enemy Abilities.

Mobile Defense and Defense Objectives: Put Mobile Defense and Defense objectives into Cataclysm to prevent all damage except damage caused by enemy Abilities.

Weapon Recommendations

Scourge

The Alt-Fire can work across the Rift.

Miter Incarnon

Useful for popping Nullifier bubbles.

Paris Incarnon

Particularly useful with a Riven for Huras nuking with the Mecha set or Contagious Bond, as both can cross the Rift.

Okina Prime Incarnon / Dual Ichor Incarnon

Both Melee Influence and the weapons’ unique Incarnon effects can cross the Rift.

Both unique Incarnon effects benefit from Rift Torrent.

Falcor / Xoris

Rift Torrent applies twice, while Melee Influence can cross the Rift.

Zaws

Rift Torrent applies twice. Zaws are also very strong for single-target damage.

Zymos

Zymos’ Spores can cross the Rift, but this requires a dummy target to continuously spawn additional Spores with Blood Altar or Well of Life.

Tombfinger

Pax Seeker can cross the Rift. Secondary Tombfinger is generally the best option for this type of setup.

Prisma Obex Incarnon

The Obex Incarnon finisher AoE can cross the Rift. This works well with Savage Silence or other finisher openers because Stasis prolongs the opener effect.

Vectis Prime Incarnon

The Incarnon’s explosion can cross the Rift. Although the Primed Chamber interaction was nerfed, the weapon remains viable with Rift Torrent.

Build Examples

Rift Torrent

The Basic Rift Torrent build focuses on high Ability Range and Ability Strength, which are the core stats when using Rift Torrent.

Because Limbo already has Energy recovery from the Rift, additional Shards, Zenurik, or Archon Stretch, he usually does not need to dedicate more mod slots to Energy management.

This setup can also be used for pure weapon platforming when paired with damage-focused Subsumed Abilities.

Flexible Mods

  • Blind Rage: Can be replaced with Umbral Intensify. Molt Augmented can compensate for the lost Ability Strength.
  • Overextended: Can be replaced with Augur Reach or dropped entirely in favor of survivability or utility, making the build easier to use in squads.

Open Slots and Survivability Options

The open slots can be used for survivability or to further improve other stats.

Rolling Guard

  • Supports Limbo’s playstyle when he rarely leaves the Rift and therefore does not require heavy investment into survivability.

Lazy Gate: Fast Deflection + Vigilante Vigor + Arcane Aegis

  • Allows Limbo to play more passively by keeping his Shields constantly available.

Arcane Circumvent

  • Supports a playstyle that frequently moves between the Material Plane and the Rift.

Rapid Resilience

  • Reduces enemy Damage-over-Time effects to only 1 to 2 ticks. Its usefulness depends on how often enemy DoTs interrupt your gameplay.

Strengthless

When not using Rift Torrent or a Subsumed Ability that benefits from it, such as Silence, Limbo can completely dump Ability Strength in favor of additional Duration or Utility.

Range Configuration

Overextended can be removed to reach approximately 79% Ability Range.

This configuration is intended for situations where you want Cataclysm to be just large enough to cover most objectives while remaining small enough to minimize interference with allies.

This is less necessary now that Nullifiers no longer pop the Cataclysm bubble.

Neutron Star

This build uses Neutron Star with Rift Torrent. It is technically a weaker version of Breach Surge, but offers better synergy with Contagious Bond and the Mecha Set, allowing Status-based nuking through the Rift.

Core Setup

Archon Vitality is important for this setup because the additional Heat procs from Neutron Star are needed to feed into the Contagious Bond or Mecha Set nukes.

Prime Continuity is flexible and can be replaced with Arcane Concentration or Molt Efficiency. It can also be used together with either option.

Forcing critical hits with Arcane Avenger and Tenacious Bond is extremely inefficient for this setup.

Companion Heat Interaction

If the first Heat DoT is applied by a companion, such as through Synergized Prospectus, every subsequent Heat DoT will count as though it came from the companion.

This allows the Heat DoTs generated by Neutron Star to trigger Contagious Bond or the Mecha Set.

If you rely on this interaction, Summoner’s Wrath becomes a strong choice because it effectively acts as a free Roar Subsumed Ability for companions.

Caster: Double Surges

This build combines Rift Torrent with Breach Surge, using Rift Torrent’s high damage bonus to amplify Breach Surge’s sparks. Even after the nerf that capped Breach Surge’s damage, the setup remains effective.

Although it is commonly played with Cataclysm, the build also works well with Banish. Replacing the bubble with Banish makes Limbo much more mobile and reduces Energy costs in missions where he cannot stay in one location.

Energy Management

Energy can become a limiting factor with this setup. If you have trouble maintaining Energy, consider adding one or more of the following:

  • Equilibrium, either as a mod or through an Archon Shard.
  • Energy Orb Efficiency Archon Shards.
  • Zenurik Focus.

Alternative Efficiency Setup

You can also run a neutral Efficiency setup by:

  • Replacing Blind Rage with a different Ability Strength mod.
  • Replacing Overextended with Augur Reach.

This provides more comfortable Energy management while maintaining strong Ability Strength and Range for the build.
