Warhammer 40,000: Rogue Trader – Space Combat Tips

How to Space Combat

Сrеdit gоеs to Morgian!

This is really a case of learn how to fight. You must make good use of your abilities and it does matter which ones you pick first. Multi torpedo, sideways slide, and boarding party are probably the best, but warp ahead and turn the enemy by 45 degrees are also favorites.

Torpedoes as such are pretty harmless, because the enemy will do his best to avoid them. But that means we know where he will move to next. With three torpedoes you can trap a ship, or at least draw its fire away from you. So even if they never hit they are useful.

With the slide option it becomes way easier to set up a ramming attack which is very effective against the smaller ships. It can also bring a ship into your range, when it would normally be safe. Same goes for warping ahead. Yes, sometimes it can serve as an attack, but more often it can bring you in or out of range.

Boarding party seems not to be so great, but it deals certain damage for three rounds, reduces movement and damages a system. It hampers their maneuvering, and since you always fight 4-5 ships, this one is a big help.

The escort ship you get as reward is – albeit dumb as a rock – useful, because if they fire at it, they don’t fire at you. And next battle it is there again, new and shiny.

I built all the colony projects that grant navy points and could max it out. You get also some good pieces as loot or reward. I invested the scrap and raised the hull points, as more hitpoints are always good.

The battles in chapter 2 are all on the easy side. The harder ones are in chapter 4, where you have at one point a warship as opponent. You being an escort ship are no match for a real warship (or should not be), but using all you have can bring it down. I saw only one battle in chapter 5 yet, but that was definitely tougher, since the enemy can regenerate.
