Ores are one of the most important things to get while you are going throughout your game. Whether it be for armor, tools, or anything you might need. They can be found throughout the world in the underground, but the first ores like copper/tin and lead/iron can be found on the surface.

There are many different kinds of ores, and in this guide I will explain everything you need to know about the many ores of Terraria.

Normal Ores

Normal Ores are the regular ores you can already find in your world after you just start it.

You can get many different kinds of ores in 1 world, but that doesn’t necessarily mean that you can get every single ore spawning naturally. There are certain guidelines to which ores you can get in any given world. Here is a list explaining which ores you can have/which ores you can’t get.

  • If you get Copper, you don’t get Tin, and vice versa.
  • If you get Lead, you don’t get Iron, and vice versa.
  • If you get Silver, you don’t get Tungsten, and vice versa.
  • If you get Platinum, you don’t get Gold, and vice versa.

When the world generates, it has a 50/50 chance to spawn those ores. That means, you might not get all of the same ores in a world twice. But, it can happen!

Since I have Copper, that means I don’t have Tin.

World Evil Ores

When you create a world, you get to choose from 2 different world evils (unless the world is a large. It doesn’t let me choose.) They are the Corruption and the Crimson. They each have their own biome specific ores. You can’t have both at the same time because you can’t get both biomes (unless you create one artificially).

Crimtane

Crimtane is the biome specific ore from the Crimson. It is dropped by the Brain of Cthulu and can be found randomly in small patches throughout the underground.

Demonite

Demonite is the biome specific ore from the Corruption. It is dropped by the Eater of Worlds and can be found randomly in small patches throughout the underground.

Eye of Cthulu

The Eye of Cthulu will drop the ore of whichever evil biome is in the world upon its death.

Gems

Gems are a different kind of ore you can find almost anywhere underground after you start a world.

There are seven different kinds of Gems:

  • Ruby
  • Sapphire
  • Emerald
  • Topaz
  • Amethyst
  • Diamond
  • Amber

Amber can only be obtained by using the extractinator on silt / slush.

Their texture consists of stone blocks with little colored dots inside of them.

Some Emeralds by a small patch of lava. Those are some hot Gems!

Hardmode Ores from Altars

Hardmode ores are ores that cannot appear until after you have defeated the Wall of Flesh. You obtain these ores by smashing demon/crimson altars with the Pwnhammer, or by getting the ores/bars from fishing crates after entering Hardmode.

Altars

Altars are used for crafting boss spawning items and once you enter Hardmode, you smash them to obtain 3 random Hardmode ores.

Hardmode ores

The sic different Hardmode ores you can get from smashing demon/crimson altars are:

  • Palladium
  • Orichalcum
  • Adamantite
  • Cobalt
  • Mythril
  • Titanium

Same as before, you have a 50/50 chance to get these ores.

  • Palladium / Cobalt
  • Orichalcum / Mythril
  • Adamantite / Titanium

Hallowed Bars and Chlorophyte

2 different kinds of ores/bars that are obtained in interesting ways.

Hallowed Bars

Hallowed Bars can only be obtained by defeating any of the Mechanical Bosses. They is always a 100% chance that you will obtain some after defeating Skeletron Prime, The Twins, or the Destroyer.

Chlorophyte

Chlorophyte is an ore that (literally) grows in the UnderGround Jungle. You cannot mine it until you get a Pickaxe Axe or a Drax, as it needs 200% Mining Power or higher.

Chlorophyte spreads over time in Mud, so you can create a unlimited Chlorophyte farm!

Other Non-Natural Ores / Bars

These are created using Glowing Mushrooms, Chlorophyte Bars, and Ectoplasm.

Shroomite Bars

These are Bars created with Glowing Mushrooms and Chlorophyte Bars. They are used to craft Ranger-only armor sets.

Spectre Bars

These are Bars created with Ectoplasm and Chlorophye Bars. They are used to craft Mage-only armor sets.

Luminite

Luminite is a Post-Moonlord ore that is obtained by defeating the Moon Lord, the final boss of Terraria.

Uses

Luminite is used to make all 4 pillar armor sets, Solar, Nebula, Stardust, and Vortex. It is also used to create tools such as pickaxes, arrows, bullets, wings, Void Dye, and the ever so popular Drill Containment Unit.
