Birb – Birb Lake and Fish Breeding Guide

Birb Lake and Fish Breeding

Unlocking the Lake and Fish Breeding

Fish breeding becomes available after you unlock the Nest. The Lake is one of the areas in the Nest that can be purchased after accumulating enough twigs.

Before purchasing the Breeding Lake, it is recommended to prioritize upgrades that increase how quickly you gather twigs, including:

  • The number of growing boxes
  • Peck power and peck rate
  • Twig value

Once you have enough twigs, purchase the Breeding Lake.

An optional upgrade called the Hatchery Nursery can also be purchased with enough twigs. It reduces the time required to breed fish.

Breeding Basics

The Breeding Lake allows you to breed two fish of either the same or different species to create a hybrid. The resulting hybrid has the attributes and buffs of its parents.

Breeding consumes both parent fish and costs Moneta based on their rarity:

Parent rarityCost per parent
Common25,000 Moneta
Uncommon50,000 Moneta
Rare100,000 Moneta
Epic250,000 Moneta
Legendary500,000 Moneta
Mythic1,000,000 Moneta

Hybrid Rarity

Every hybrid receives a rarity. For parents from Common through Legendary, the resulting hybrid can have a rarity up to Legendary. Mythic parents can also produce Mythic hybrids.

Higher-rarity parents provide better chances of obtaining a higher-rarity hybrid.

The following distribution applies when both parents have the listed rarity:

Parent rarityCommonUncommonRareEpicLegendaryMythic
Common68%25%6%0.9%0.1%0%
Uncommon38%38%18%5%1%0%
Rare15%30%35%16%4%0%

Legendary0%10%30%45%15%0%

The Mythic distribution was not available for comparison.

Shiny Chance and Shiny Progress

Hybrid fish can be shiny. Like regular shiny fish, a shiny hybrid provides an increased buff.

The initial chance of producing a shiny hybrid depends on the parents:

  • Neither parent is shiny: 0.5%
  • One parent is shiny: 5%
  • Both parents are shiny: 10%

When at least one parent is shiny, Shiny Progress provides bad-luck mitigation. The progress starts at 0/100 and increases whenever a non-shiny hybrid is produced:

  • 5 points per failed attempt with one shiny parent
  • 10 points per failed attempt with two shiny parents

If the progress reaches 100/100, the hybrid that is produced is guaranteed to be shiny. Producing a shiny hybrid resets the progress to 0/100.

Shiny Progress is specific to the particular hybrid and its parents. It is not shared between different hybrids or parent combinations. For example, reaching 90/100 or 95/100 with Common parents and then switching to Legendary parents does not preserve that progress for the new combination.

Active Breeding

While a hybrid is being bred, the breeding window displays:

  • The parents’ buffs
  • The overall time remaining
  • How to speed up the breeding process

The required breeding time depends on the resulting hybrid’s rarity:

Hybrid rarityBreeding time
Common5 minutes
Uncommon15 minutes
Rare45 minutes
Epic1.5 hours
Legendary4.5 hours
MythicUnknown

Breeding can be accelerated through fishing. This mechanic works with the Birb, but not with the seagulls.

The fishing reduction can greatly reduce the time required to produce each hybrid.

Same Biome and Same Species

Same Biome refers to the nine biomes in the Aquarium:

  • Coast
  • Reef
  • Freshwater
  • Ocean
  • Abyssal
  • Creatures
  • Mystical
  • Mechanical
  • Expedition

For both Same Biome and Same Species, only one of the two parents needs to match the relevant condition.

A shiny result provides a percentage-based breeding time reduction of 40%, rather than a flat reduction.

If the goal is to produce hybrids as quickly as possible, configure the Birb’s fishing setup to match the optimal setup for catching the easier of the two parent fish.

Hatched Hybrids

You can have up to two hybrids available at a time, but only one can be active at a time. This allows you to keep one hybrid for your primary objective and another as a utility or backup option.

A saved hybrid’s information panel displays:

  • The hybrid’s name
  • Its exact parents when you scroll over the name
  • Rarity
  • Buffs
  • Lineage

Lineage

Lineage is a bad-luck mitigation system for hybrid rarity. It allows you to fuse newly bred hybrids with a saved hybrid of the same type to make progress toward increasing its rarity.

Lineage only works when the newly bred hybrid has the exact same parents as one of your saved hybrids.

For example, a newly bred Common hybrid can be fused with a saved hybrid of the same type to add 10 points to its Lineage progress. When the Lineage bar reaches 100/100, the hybrid advances to the next rarity level. The Lineage bar then resets to 0/100.

The number of Lineage points awarded depends on the rarity of the newly bred hybrid:

Newly bred rarityLineage points
Common10
Uncommon20
Rare35
Epic50
Legendary100

It can sometimes be more efficient to discard a saved hybrid and hatch the newly bred one instead of fusing them.

For example, if a saved hybrid is Common, upgrading it all the way to Rare requires 200 Lineage progress. If a newly bred Rare hybrid would only increase the Lineage progress by 30 when fused, saving the new Rare hybrid instead can be more efficient than keeping the existing Common hybrid.

Lineage and Shiny Hybrids

Lineage and fusion also work when the saved hybrid is normal and the newly bred hybrid is shiny.

Fusing a newly bred shiny hybrid into the saved hybrid makes the current hybrid shiny, regardless of the rarity of either hybrid.

Shiny status therefore functions as an independent attribute or enhancement rather than a separate upgrade path from non-shiny hybrids.

Choosing Hybrid Fish

The best hybrid choice is generally two copies of your best Skill Points buff fish. However, the optimal choice can depend on the fish available to you and your current situation.

A secondary or utility hybrid may instead be useful for:

  • Parrot Damage, to help clear stronger enemies
  • HP, to survive enemies that would otherwise be difficult to withstand

A hybrid combining two different buffs is often less effective than using a hybrid made from the same two fish and obtaining the missing bonuses from regular fish buffs.

Skill Points are also generally a better choice, particularly because of how bonuses are applied. For example, using three regular fish slots for Parrot Damage provides less return alongside a Damage hybrid than using those three slots for Skill Points alongside a Skill Point hybrid.

If you need all of your regular fish slots plus a hybrid just to deal enough damage to kill enemies, you are either very likely to die in one or two hits because of low HP, or you need to redistribute your points for a more balanced build.

In that situation, you will likely farm more Skill Points by dropping down a level and using all of your slots and the hybrid for Skill Point boosts instead.
