How to Kill the The Archivist Boss

The Archivist can be a major obstacle on Floor 9, especially if your equipment and fish loadout are not optimal. However, you do not necessarily need to grind extensively or reach Tier 4 (T4) before attempting the fight. It is possible to defeat the boss with suboptimal gear and fish before reaching T4.

This strategy focuses on dealing enough damage to kill The Archivist before it can hit you. The example build uses 1,700 SP and deals 274 Oc damage after buffs, but the boss can be defeated with considerably less total SP by following the same approach.

Recommended Build

1. Breed and Activate a Damage Hybrid

Breed a damage hybrid using two Crownfrost Serpents, then activate it.

Hybrids provide passive buffs that do not expire. However, only one hybrid can be active at a time. The hybrid feature is unlocked through the Lineage Lake upgrade from the aquarium.

2. Equip Your Best Damage Artifacts

Equip your five strongest damage artifacts. The example build uses:

• 2 Skulls
• 1 Depth Chronicle
• 2 Spirit Amulets

Infuse the Skulls as much as possible to maximize their damage contribution.

3. Equip Your Best Damage and Attack Speed Fish

Choose your two strongest damage fish and your best attack speed fish.

The example build uses:

• Crownfrost Serpent
• Coldsnap Runner
• Throne of Winter

4. Allocate All SP to Damage

Put all your SP points into damage. The goal is to eliminate The Archivist before it can hit you even once.

Finding a Favorable Boss Spawn

The Archivist can spawn with varying amounts of HP, roughly ranging from 2.8 No to 5 No. Finding a spawn with HP near the lower end of this range makes the fight easier.

Follow these steps to find a favorable spawn:

1. Turn off Auto Attack using the button in the top-right corner of the expedition screen.
2. Reroll until you find a location where you can reach The Archivist without being killed by other mobs.
3. Look for a spawn where The Archivist has HP near the lower end of its approximate range.
4. Make sure The Archivist has spawned before rushing toward it.

Finding a suitable spawn may take several attempts.

Maximizing Parrot Damage

You can increase the rate at which the parrot damages mobs by clicking on them.

During the fight, spam-click The Archivist as quickly as possible to make the parrot hit the boss more frequently.

Alternative: Defeating The Archivist with Shiny Damage Fish

If you have shiny damage fish, you can defeat The Archivist with around 700 Sx and 200 Oc damage. You may be able to defeat it even earlier with better infusions, better equipment upgrades, and a better hybrid.
