The Firebomber (Human Mage) Build
Why Play This Build?
The Firebomber is a strong ranged build with a simple gameplay loop. After the initial burst, most of the rotation consists of using abilities as they come off cooldown. Seed Bomb also creates burning pits that can fill an area, while exploding poison pools can add additional damage to each Seed Bomb cast.
The build can deal high damage at range, although maximizing its damage requires maintaining autoattack uptime.
Why Human Mage?
Human Mage provides two main advantages for this build:
- Ember Cascade provides useful filler damage as long as you can maintain autoattack uptime.
- The skill tree provides easy access to multiple crit bonuses against burning and chilled targets.
The build gets access to:
- 24% crit rate against burning targets
- 65% crit damage against burning targets
- 24% crit rate against chilled targets
- An additional 65% crit damage against chilled targets after the October 4 update
These bonuses primarily improve the damage of Dragon’s Breath and Seed Bomb, which both have approximately 6-second cooldowns.
Downsides
The build requires you to spend a significant amount of time autoattacking to maximize its damage. This can make it harder to see what the boss is doing.
The build still performs well with reduced Ember Cascade uptime, but its damage is highest when you can maintain your attacks while safely staying in range.
Gear
Blightseed
6-piece Blightseed is non-negotiable.
Seed Bomb can account for roughly one third of the build’s damage, and it can only do so if you place down five bombs per cast.
The set can be farmed from Corrupted Treant.
Additional Set Bonuses
6-piece Pathweaver with the right rolls is by far the best option for the other set bonuses and provides a tremendous overall damage boost.
6-piece Pyreweaver can be used as a potential alternative.
Recommended Stats
Look for the following stats on amulets and emblems:
- Crit rate
- Crit damage
- Magic damage
- Attack damage
- Fire damage
- Decay damage
- Associated piercing stats
- Spell Haste
Try to get Concentration on your charm whenever possible.
Following the October 4 skill tree changes, Concentration on Hit on the charm is also advisable.
Skills
Core Skills
The build uses these three core abilities:
- Dragon’s Breath: Good single-target burst damage and a firestarter.
- Seed Bomb: Delayed burst damage with additional fire explosions.
- Blizzard Alpha Howl: Provides access to crit bonuses against chilled targets.
Flexible Skills
The remaining two skill slots are up to discretion. Possible options include:
- Fireball: A cheap firestarter with a low cooldown.
- Aetherfang Phalanx: Provides extra damage, but can be replaced with other options.
- Black Hole: Useful for mobbing.

Rotation
Opening Rotation
Start the fight by moving close to the boss because Seed Bomb’s cast range is not particularly high.
The updated October 4 opener is:
- Cast Seed Bomb.
- Cast Alpha Howl.
- Cast Dragon’s Breath.
After the opener, maintain basic attacks and use your spells whenever they come off cooldown until the boss dies.
Pet
The pet can interfere with the attribution of explosion damage.
Shield Cat or Ice Woofer are recommended options.
