Stormgate – Buildings Tips and Tricks

Building placement can be a decising factor in your matches. Here’s how to make the most of it. This should provide basic guidance to develop your thought proccess on where and how to position your buildings effectively.

How to Position Your Buildings Effectively

Walling

This refer to partially blocking access to parts of the map, especially base ramps, by leaving enough space for units to pass. Whenever needed, one unit can block passage with the Hold command (default: D), acting as a bouncer.

See more on the video guide:

Example 1 tile wall (diagonal, allows bigger units to pass):

Example 2 tile wall:

Tip: units in hold position will appear as immovable objects under the grid (construction menu). They always block more space than their model size.

Basic Building Placement

All buildings provide vision around them.

Supply

Position at ramps and choke points, and where you want vision. Infernals may also position near workers or creeps. Have a backup at the deepest part of your base (tip: you can use this spot to remind yourself of building more supply).

Production

Position T1 production buildings gradually outwards, giving units trained less time rallying. T2 & T3 buildings should be positioned generally safer, deeper into your base.

Tech

Position tech unlock buildings at the heart of your base, far from edges, avoiding drop-ins, preferably hidden from the opponent, in dark spots (where scans and scouting units usually don’t pass), for as long as possible.

Grid Layout

There’s a reason the grid layout is used in real life infrastructure: it’s effective, and it should provide a starting point for your own bases.

To apply, position your buildings parallel to each other, with at least 2 tiles between them, ensuring every unit can travel freely through your base.

Threat Zones

These zones increase in size as the match progresses, alongside your base and army:

  • Green: extremely safe. Vulnerable to drop-ins.
  • Yellow: safe. Vulnerable to timed attacks.
  • Red: unsafe. Any hostile push will threaten it.
