Stranded: Alien Dawn – Efficient Way to Scavenge / Salvage Wrecks

How to Scavenge / Salvage Wrecks with Max Profit

Is the spaceship debris that you want scavenge/salvage bit far from where you set up your camp? Do you feel the need for a faster way to get more stuff from the wreckage back to camp? If yes and yes, then here’s my optimal method for scavenging/salvaging wrecks:

  • Build a wooden storage chest by the wreck. Just mark a nearby tree for cutting and get the survivor you want to use for scavenging to do it starting with the tree then the chest. Be sure to fill up their needs first and start shortly before sunrise (4hr) since their speed and manipulation is reduced in the dark, especially at night
  • Order your survivor to continously scavenge/salvage the wreck. They should only transport the resources into the chest, not to the camp. If they acquire scrap metal or metal alloys just order them to keep gathering stuff from the wreck; they cannot go into the chest since they are construction materials and they last a long time outside.
  • Only move the chest to the camp once it is full and the scrap metal once there’s about 100ish of it near the wreck. If the wreck is fully scavenged or salvaged, everything can be moved back to camp. You can either get the survivor to haul the stuff back to camp once sunset (17hr) comes around or get someone else to do it instead.
  • If you have hauled the chest back to camp, you can either check the “keep empty” option or deconstruct it. Either way will allow the survivors to empty it’s contents. I recommend deconstructing it cause it only requires 3 wood which is really cheap to build. So rinse and repeat from the first step.

The trick is to simply reduce the number of trips for transporting resources acquired from wreckage back to camp. This is because from my experience of the game, a survivor’s movement speed while carrying something is not affected by the type of object (whether it be a resource or device) or the quantity of resource they are hauling. E.g. lets say you have a survivor carrying 100 scrap metal and another carrying the same resource but in a smaller amount of 10. They will both move at the same at the speed.

Bonus notes

  1. You can build an area and assign the scavenger to it so they stay there.
  2. This really works if you’re scavenger is also your expedition person who has gotten the many happiness boosts (alien civ discovery/iron totem thing). You can give them an expedition tool & they can do all 12 scavenge actions w/o breaking down.
  3. If there’s a thunderstorm, build a quick lightning rod, it only takes 10 scrap, 5 of which can be recovered afterward.

#2 works even if there’s rain, they’re just so darn happy.

I hope you found this helpful!
