Honkai: Star Rail – Survival Laws in Later Stages of Memory of Chaos (Version 1.1)

As the most rewarding and challenging game mode, “Memory of Chaos” of the Forgotten Hall has presumably become the main challenge target for a lot of players, but the team comps for Memory of Chaos are not as simple as putting eight characters together. Even if you have at hand the materials to build two teams, you still have to make special comps to address the difficult parts and raise the chance to win. So in this article I will share some specialist team comp ideas for Memory of Chaos.

Survival is Far More Important Than DMG

The most difficult part of Memory of Chaos occurs at Stage 7 and later, when the Level of enemies are higher than Lv.80, the Level cap of our characters, which means they outrun us more and more extremely in terms of Level, and lowering our DMG to them. Moreover, from Stage 7 onward, each team of yours have to cope with three intensive combats consecutively, with Elite Enemies involved in the second and third combats. They deliver more targeted AoE DMG or apply Crowd Control effects to us than ordinary enemies do.

Though in most cases, a standard team comp requires a Preservation or Abundance character, a carry and a supportive Harmony or Nihility character, in this case where we face high pressure, our first priority is not win the combat as soon as possible, but assign our only flexible place, or even one or more of our otherwise necessary picks to those characters that are more specialized to deal with enemy pressure as per the characteristics of these Elite Enemies, so the team survives better.

BTW, the characters I’m about to mention are only for specialist purposes, so you don’t have to put aside some of your already limited resources to enhance their Level or Traces on purpose. For most of the time you can equip them with around Lv.9 Relic set “Guard of Wuthering Snow”, and Lv.70+ Light Cones of any Paths that provide a good HP or DEF. Disregard the Light Cones’ Path requirements as long as they provide a cold, hard stat bonus to guarantee the characters survive to play their part. This applies to all characters on the team except for the carries.

For example in the Memory of Chaos of V1.1, enemies including Cocolia, Ice Out Of Space, Kafka characterize themselves as frequent casters of Crowd Control effects. In coincidence, Luocha, the character available in the current Event Warp has the ability to dispel debuffs for allies and a huge Crowd Control RES himself; meanwhile he is a much needed Abundance character, meaning he alone can effectively neutralize the negative effects of enemy Crowd Controls. For players that don’t have Luocha, Natasha or March 7th can serve as his substitute.

In a separate case, when we face enemies like Disciples of Sanctus Medicus: Shape Shifter, who have powerful buffs such as restoring HP when landing attacks, though we have other means to disable the buffs, these means take up a lot of our DMG. If we bring Pela, who can dispel buffs directly, then we can concentrate our effort on key enemies, allowing us to clear the stages easier. Otherwise, Luocha, whom we mentioned above, also dispels buffs with his Ultimate.

As for enemies like Searing Prowler, Automaton Direwolf, which are only good at pouring DMG on us, most of them have one or more of Ice, Quantum, and Imaginary Weaknesses, thus susceptible to the Crowd Control effects of the characters of these DMG types. Plus, they are guaranteed to be Controlled when Weakness Breaks are inflicted for these Weaknesses. We can make use of this and bring specialized characters to delay their actions. When fighting enemies with Ice Weakness, we can use Gepard, March 7th, who have a high probability to freeze enemies; for enemies of Quantum or Imaginary Weaknesses, we can bring as many characters of these types as possible. Among them, Silver Wolf and Welt Yang are the respective best of their DMG types.

Examples of Specialized Team Comps

Recommended Team Comp 1: Tingyun + Jing Yuan + Natasha + Trailblazer (Preservation)

This is a team specialized for Memory of Chaos that requires relatively less effort and premium characters. Since Trailblazer (Preservation) is the only character now that can apply Taunt to enemies, they are not only surprisingly useful against the DMG-pouring Elite Enemies, but good at attracting the single target Crowd Control effects cast by Kafka or Cocolia, and these debuffs can be easily dispelled by Natasha. In the meantime, in the current version Tingyun is the most cost-efficient Harmony character while Jing Yuan is the strongest carry. They are simple to build as well as guarantees of team DMG.

During our trial, this team showed a good performance against almost all enemies except for Disciples of Sanctus Medicus: Shape Shifter and Ice Out Of Space. In extreme circumstances, you can clear Team 1, Stage 10 with Jing Yuan at Lv. 80 and other characters at only Lv.70. If you are short of materials to further build the whole team, just focus on Trailblazer (Preservation) and Jing Yuan, and equip Tingyun with Relic set “Guard of Wuthering Snow”.

Recommended Team Comp 2: Gepard +Himeko + Silver Wolf + Asta

This is a specialized team that requires a bit more, and it avoids the characters from V1.0’s Event Warps. Among the team members, Silver Wolf and Asta have excellent capabilities of Toughness reduction. If you equip them with Relic sets “Thief of Shooting Meteor” and built Link Ropes with Break Effect as the Main Stat, they can efficiently inflict Weakness Break on one of the Elite enemies at minimum cost. Besides a considerable Break Effect DMG, Himeko can also perform her follow-up attacks more quickly. Gepard plays a DMG-absorbing role on this team as well as freezing enemies of Ice Weakness. If you are dealing with enemies without Ice Weakness, switch him to Trailblazer (Preservation).

Compared to the last team, this one is fairly strong against virtually all enemies. Its only flaw is a lack of debuff dispelling ability. Thus, you should focus on taking out enemies that apply Crowd Controls.

Of course the recommendations above are just starters. You can try teaming freely around your most built-up carry characters such as Seele, Clara, Yanqing, etc.. Just add the characters specialized against the enemy you are about to fight. This has been all about team comp ideas for Memory of Chaos.
