The Snoker (Snail Poker) Rules
General Rules
- 2s are bombs.
- Default order is the same as in most card games–3 is low (bc 2s are bombs), ace is high (3 4 5 6 7 8 9 10 J Q K A).
- If someone plays a card, u have to play the card directly above theirs, matching the number of cards they put down.
- This means if someone puts down “3, 3” you will have to put down “4, 4” | you cannot play “4, 5” on a “3, 3”, because you have to follow the first person’s pattern.
- But if someone puts down “3”, you cannot put down “4, 4” or “4, 5”.
- If more than one card is put down, you cannot play a 2 unless you have the same number of 2s as whatever the current # of cards in the round is (so if “3, 3” is played, you cannot play a single “2”, but you can play “2, 2”).
- You can play 1 card, or 3+ cards if you have any kind of run.
- You can play 1-4 cards if they are all the same number.
- If you have 4 of a kind, it can be played at any time regardless of the cards played before.
- Snail cards are jokers, and they can be used in place of any other card.
Snail Cards
Aside from being jokers, they also:
- If a black snail is played, the direction of the players is swapped — counterclockwise -> clockwise and vice versa.
- If a red snail is played, the ranking of the cards is swapped.
- This means the new order would be (A K Q J 10 9 8 7 6 5 4 3).
- Snail effects stack, so if both colours are played both direction and ranking are swapped.
- 2 remains as a bomb.
- Snails cannot be used as a single wild card — they must be used with (at least) one other non-joker card.
Rounds
- Everyone draws a card at the start of a round.
- A round ends if nobody else can play a card.
This means that having 1 card left doesn’t necessarily mean you win, generally you’ll win if you have a pair of cards or a 3+ card run, OR if you get lucky and the round circles back to you without skips.
