ULTRAKILL – Gutterman Pre-Release Tips

I’ve got some tips that I, as a self-proclaimed good Ultrakill player who has p-ranked most custom levels and has done everything available in the main game as of now, will bestow upon you in this guide. Let’s begin!

Gutterman Tips

All credit goes to StackedHamsters42!

How to stop them from firing

From what we know, the Gutterman fires at you and gets more and more accurate over time. But what we’ve seen they also attempt to raise their shield and pause firing to melee strike you. Take advantage of this and dodge the much slower melee attack to stop them from turning you from metal to scrap!

Knuckleblaster

Moreover on that shield thing. We’ve seen Hakita “parry” them with the knuckleblaster of all things. If you remember, the whole gimmick is that it doesn’t parry. So this means that Hakita made a special interaction where the red arm will parry it’s attacks.

Use this!

It not only deals damage, it not only replenishes your health and stamina, but it also staggers them. This is an incredible tool that you have to use as a one-time get-out-of-jail-free card. One caveat, however, it breaks their shield. Don’t let this discourage you however, the trade-off is entirely worth it. By the time you’ve staggered it, you have it pretty much yours.

Also, do not forget about your blue arm! While you still need to wait for the yellow flash and require skill and timing, it does not destroy their shield meaning that you could do it as much as you want just like any other enemy. It seems to give you the same benefits regardless, so use both arms in tandem!

P.S. Hakita will implement an official bind to quick switch between arms to forgo the slow switching between arms.

Damage Sponges

These guys are REALLY slow. Like, it’s their main point. The TF2 Heavies of Ultrakill. So this means that by using the last tip to stagger them, just hit them as much as you can. They’re giant, and huge hunks of metal that you can hit as much as you can. Really, just use as many tools as you have. Use a railcoin, slab charge shots, a cannonball, but most of all:

Saws and nails. I mean, come on. These guys are VERY susceptible to giant traps. If you lay down an overheat saw or blast ’em with a magnet and hit ’em with your overheat nailgun.

Take Cover!

Something important to note is that, like I said earlier, they really need their line of sight. If you can’t face them up close, use your terrain to your advantage. Or better yet, if there’s some sort of ceiling, rocket ride above it so that they can’t get to you no matter what, though this only works in open spaces without walls. So pretty much, you can’t really do much. Unless you try to slam storage in the cybergrind (unless they are hitscan at full accuracy). Also, if you DO take cover, remember to use coins to hit them without getting close to them.

So, they’re a pushover?

Uh, no. Not even close. If you’ve noticed, all of these ideas require full attention on them. This could be tough if you’re facing them head-on in a group of other enemies. The way Ultrakill’s going, it’s difficulty will come from using your high mobility to dodge their attention-grabbing attacks. And I think this is awesome! This is an interesting take on the FPS genre.

Personally, my insane ramblings here are a bit stupid. I’m good conventionally at the game, not with the actual conceptualization of the game and how to deal with enemies. I hope that this helps, and we can both laugh at my horrible way of coping with waiting once the update’s out.
